A tempting idea is to learn how to carve swans from apples or make a basket from watermelon. After reading the detailed description of the work and looking at the photographs presented, you will be able to do not only this, you will create a chic fruit basket in less than an hour.

Watermelon basket

Agree, this giant berry, cut in a certain way, filled with goodies, will decorate any table. Making it is not as difficult as it seems at first.

To create such a three-dimensional edible picture, you can buy a set of carving knives. But even if you couldn’t do this, artistic cutting of fruits will still come true. For this you will use a knife with a thin blade.

In order to perform such carving, check out the list of what should be at hand:

  • watermelon;
  • towel;
  • knife;
  • paper;
  • scissors;
  • an ice cream spoon, a tea spoon or a special noisette spoon for carving;
  • ball pen.
Here is the step-by-step procedure:
  1. Wash the watermelon well, dry it with a towel and place it on the larger side. Measure its height in this position and lightly scratch the middle along its circumference with the tip of a knife. Determine where the basket handle will be.
  2. Draw a pen fragment template on a piece of paper and cut it out. Apply it to the selected place on the fruit. Trace the template with a ballpoint pen.
  3. Place the remaining fragments above the first and also outline. In this way, shape the handle of the basket, and then confidently cut with a knife along the scratched center and along the contours of the handle.
  4. Now remove the crust along with the pulp, which is located from the right of the center to the handle and to the left of the handle to the left edge.
  5. Take a noisette spoon or other similar round shape and scoop out the pulp, forming it into balls. Set them aside on a separate dish.
  6. Remove the remaining pulp from the fruit by cutting it into rectangles with a knife and drain the juice.
  7. Only now make the handle openwork, in this case its fragments are made in the form of hearts.
  8. Decorate the edge of the basket by cutting it in a zigzag pattern. You can first draw this outline or scratch it, and then go over it with a knife.

In order not to spoil the work, do not immediately cut out the openwork handle, but cut its contours as if it were rectangular. You will do the openwork cutting later.

Now there is painstaking work ahead, as we need to prepare the decoration to fill our basket with fruit. To do this, look at which watermelon circles have fewer seeds, and remove all the seeds with the tip of a knife.

Place these delicious balls in a fruit basket along with seedless grapes and strawberries. You can fill a watermelon with just berries, it will also look amazing.

Carving for beginners - apple swan

Anyone can carve this graceful bird. Take an apple, wash it, cut off the side as shown in the photo.

Now place the apple on it so that the swan, made with your own hands, is stable.

Find the middle of the apple in this position and cut a slice at the top, just to the right of center, as shown in the photo.

Now cut out the next lower slice in the same way and make several more similar fragments.

Then you just need to lay them out on the apple, slightly moving them towards you.

We made the first wing, do the second in the same way.

The neck and head of the swan are created from the remaining side part, which we had left at the initial stage of work. Cut off the middle and remove sharp corners.

Next, insert a dry clove (seasoning) in place of the eyes, pierce the bottom of the neck with a toothpick and put this fragment of the bird in its place.

You have got a beautiful swan, carved with your own hands, which will decorate the sweet and dessert table.

Delicious pineapple crafts

Fruit carving can be very diverse. If you have a pineapple, you peel it and are left with an inedible “tail” with a piece of stem, do not throw it away. This fragment will make a wonderful parrot. You can make it with your own hands in literally 5 minutes.

Using a knife, give the stalk a rounded shape and make a cutout in the nose area. Insert a piece of carrot here. Also make a cut on the top of the head, where you insert a tuft of green pineapple. The role of the eyes will be played by two black peppercorns or raisins. You can make several of these amazing birds, decorate cocktail glasses with them, or place them on the edge of a dish with a sweet salad.

And such a statue was made by carving professionals from the same fruit.

Once you have practiced enough, try to carve the same masterpiece. In the meantime, fruit carving can be like this.

For it you will need:

  • a pineapple;
  • strawberry;
  • yellow and red seedless grapes;
  • skewers for canapés;
  • knife;
  • dish.
Peel the pineapple by cutting off some of the pulp from the sides. Using a knife, chop it into squares. Cut the bottom of the pineapple evenly so that the fruit is stable and place it on a plate. Thread the washed and dried berries onto skewers and pin them to the pineapple base, matching the color scheme.

Here's how to serve pineapple. A children's table can be decorated with a funny chicken made using the carving technique. For this you need:

  • 2 pineapples;
  • carrot;
  • 2 dried blackcurrants or other dark berries.
Peel the first pineapple, cut it in half and remove the core. Remove the green tail as well. Peel the second pineapple and cut off the green tail too. Now you need to give the fruit a round shape, and cut out part of the pulp at the base to indicate the bird’s head.

Make 3 round cutouts in it. Instead of a beak, insert the lower pointed part of a carrot, and instead of eyes - two dry berries. For the scallop, decorate the top of the carrot plate in a zigzag shape and insert this part into the slot on the bird’s head. Place the bird blank between the two halves of the first pineapple, put the green tail at the back, which acts as a tail. Here's what you can do with pineapple.

Basket with fruit flowers

This basket of flowers can be given as a gift for any occasion. The main elements are made easily and simply. Let's create green ones using kiwi. We peel the fruit, trying to leave its surface smooth.

We stick a Thai knife so that the tip of its blade is in the middle of the kiwi, and make zigzag cuts in a circle. Then we simply divide the fruit into two halves. We pierce each of them from the reverse side with a wooden skewer. It is also not difficult to cut out other flowers from fruits.

Think in advance about what you will stick the backs of the skewers into to secure the flowers. To do this, you can use a floral sponge cut to the shape of a basket. If you are making an arrangement in a flower pot, then you can use a head of cabbage.

The theme of fruit carving continues with a story about how to make daisies. We use pineapple for them. Wash it, lay it on its side, remove the tail. Cut into circles 1-1.5 cm thick, as shown in the photo.

If you have a special form, then press its sharp edges onto the first circle and get a chamomile blank. If there is no such form, use a paper template. Place it on the pineapple circle and cut around the edges with a sharp knife.

We make the core of the flower from the melon with a spoon and noisette. You get beautiful, even balls. Now you need to string a pineapple flower onto the tip of a wooden skewer, then a melon ball.

Decorate the other skewers in the same way, the rest with light and dark grapes. A fruit basket looks beautiful if it contains scarlet berries, such as strawberries. It should not be overripe so that it does not roll off the skewer. You can wash a few berries, dry them and simply string them onto a wooden stick.

There is another option. Melt the dark chocolate, dip the tip of the berry or the whole thing into it. Turn the strawberry over to the other side, place it on a plate, and let the chocolate harden. Then thread it onto a skewer.

You will see the subtleties of this process by looking at the photo. It shows another way to carve a pineapple for a fruit basket. Other berries, such as blackberries, can be used as the core of such a flower.

But how beautiful a basket of fruits and berries looks, decorated with pineapple and melon flowers, grapes, strawberries and chocolate-covered strawberries.

The next fruit basket is even more original. As a matter of fact, instead of a base, a wide and tall glass vessel was used here. First, circles cut from oranges are placed in it. 1-2 whole oranges are placed on top of the vase. They are pierced with skewers, on the tops of which rectangular pieces of pineapple and strawberries are strung. Intermediate voids are filled with sprigs of parsley or other herbs, such as basil.

The next fruit basket shown is made using the flowers we made above. It is decorated with apple slices with a cut out seed pod. To prevent the slices from darkening, place them in water with lemon juice added for 15 minutes.

Fruit flowers

They are used everywhere: they decorate baskets in this way, make edible bouquets, decorate festive tables and cakes.

If you don’t have a basket, but want to make a holiday bouquet to give to a woman on March 8, place it in another suitable container. Any representative of the fair sex will certainly appreciate such a tasty and original gift.

You read earlier how to cut such a daisy from a pineapple. Thread it onto a skewer, just like a dark grape, which will become the core of the flower.

Wash the flower pot well, place a floral or ordinary sponge on its bottom, and pierce it with the back of the skewers. You can fill the space between these daisies, for example, with orange roses.

To do this, wash the fruit and dry it with a towel. Starting at the top, cut the zest in a spiral. Try to do this carefully so that the tape is intact. Now carefully roll it up into a rose shape and leave it to dry in that position. A fruit basket decorated with bright flowers will not only look amazing, but will also smell divinely of citrus fruits.

A basket of melon with fruit, a recipe with a photo of which I offer today, will become an original and edible decoration for your holiday table. For this you will need an ordinary ripe melon and a variety of bright fruits and berries. By the way, it will look just as original.
Preparation time: 10 minutes.
Cooking time: 30 minutes.

Ingredients:
- oval melon - 1 pc.,
- cherries or sweet cherries - a handful,
- blackberries or raspberries - a handful,
- powdered sugar - to taste,
- mint leaves - a sprig.

How to cook with photos step by step

To make a basket, take an oval-shaped melon; it can be any color. The most difficult part of this recipe will be to cut the melon basket evenly and accurately. Place the melon on a work surface and see if it is level. If the melon wobbles, you can trim it from the bottom. Now you need to make a handle for the basket. If your eye doesn't work well, use a pencil to draw the outline of a handle. Use a knife to cut triangular pieces of melon on both sides of your future handle.

Carefully trim the flesh under the handle of the basket.

Using a spoon, remove all seeds from the melon. And then cut out some of the pulp from the resulting basket. If you have an ice cream cutter, you can use this kitchen gadget. You can try using a teaspoon to cut out balls from the melon pulp.

To add visual beauty to the basket, cut out small triangle-like teeth on its sides.

To fill the basket, select colorful berries or fruits. In my case, I combine pieces of melon pulp, cherries and blackberries in a bowl. You can sprinkle all ingredients with powdered sugar.

Place the berry-fruit filling in the melon basket. For beauty, you can add a few mint leaves to the basket. If desired, cut out small curly leaves or other elements from the remaining melon peel and attach with a skewer to the edges of the basket.

Before serving, sprinkle the contents of the basket with powdered sugar.
Now, in just half an hour you will have such a beautiful melon basket with... Your holiday table or romantic evening will be decorated.
Best regards, Elbi.

Today we will tell you how to cut a fruit basket from a melon in the shape of a funny hedgehog, which will become a real decoration for a children's party. This craft does not require a lot of time and special tools, so it is perfect for those who want to, but still have only initial ideas about the features of such decoration. So let's get started.

For the project, prepare:

  • melon,
  • blueberries or currants,
  • fruits and berries to your taste,
  • felt-tip pen,
  • small paring knife,
  • grapefruit knife,
  • toothpicks.

Let's get to work.

1. Wash the melon, dry it well with paper towels and draw a rectangle on the skin of the fruit with a felt-tip pen.

2. Using a sharp knife, cut a hole following the drawn lines.

3. Carefully remove the cut peel.

4. Thoroughly clean the melon of seeds and fibers.

5. Stepping back a little from the peel, use a sharp grapefruit knife to begin cutting off the flesh of the fruit so that there is a depression inside. It is important to work as carefully as possible at this stage as the outer part of the melon must not be damaged.

6. The result is a hollow piece that can be used as a vase.

7. Now cut the extracted pulp into even slices, which will be needed for further decoration, and set aside the peel of the upper part.

8. Using a knife, trim the open edges of the melon to create sharp wedges.

9. Take the set aside peel and cut out a small triangle and four squares from it - these blanks will be used to decorate the legs and face of the hedgehog.

10. Using toothpicks, attach the prepared parts to the melon. To do this, place the triangle on the side of the fruit, fixing it at the corners, and the squares at the base. This will give you the body of a hedgehog.

11. Place currants or blueberries on toothpicks that hold the triangle on the fruit to create eyes and a nose.

12. Prepare the filling for the vase. To do this, make a kind of canapés by attaching fruits and berries cut into pieces on toothpicks. Place the assortment in the hollow of the melon so that the toothpicks face up and replace the hedgehog's spines.

The hedgehog-shaped fruit basket is ready. Use it to serve the holiday table, which makes it possible to effectively serve the slices.
