For children, cake is the main treat at a children's birthday party. In addition to the fact that it must be tasty, it must also be beautiful. Cartoon characters will delight the little birthday boy and his guests. They can be on plates, glasses, caps, flags and, of course, on the cake.

Almost children all over the world know and love the funny mouse invented by Walt Disney, Mickey Mouse and his girlfriend Minnie, so a cake decorated with these characters will appeal to little sweet tooths.

Decor in the style of Mickey Mouse can be made from either mastic or cream. Below are recipes for making mastic and cream, as well as descriptions of the process of making and decorating the cake. They will help even a not-so-experienced mother pastry chef bake a cake for the birthday of her beloved daughter or son.

How to make mastic for a cake

Mastic for decorating cakes is made from powdered sugar according to several recipes, using marshmallows, condensed milk, liquid honey, diluted gelatin and others.

Let's look at the simplest mastic recipes with a minimum set of ingredients and do not require long preparation. This is marshmallow mastic based on condensed milk.

Progress:

  1. Place marshmallows, butter and lemon juice in a saucepan or deep bowl. Then place the vessel with these ingredients in a steam bath;
  2. When the marshmallows begin to melt, begin to add powdered sugar in portions and knead into a lump of thick, homogeneous mass that will resemble plasticine.

For mastic with condensed milk you need to take:

  • 210 g condensed milk;
  • 165 g powdered sugar;
  • 150 g milk powder;
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice.

To knead the mastic according to this recipe, it will also take no more than half an hour.

Calorie content – 390.2 kcal/100 g.

Cooking process:

  1. Powdered sugar and milk powder should be mixed together and sifted several times through a sieve. This will make the dry mixture more uniform;
  2. Then mix the liquid ingredients and add the dry ingredients. Mix everything well into a round lump.

The mastic prepared according to both the first and second recipes should be wrapped in cling film and allowed to rest overnight in the refrigerator. Only after this can you work with it.

To decorate in the style of Mickey Mouse, you will need mastic of several colors: light (beige or white), red or pink and dark (black or chocolate).

The easiest way to color mastic is with gel dyes, but if you don’t have them or you don’t want to add ingredients with a complex chemical composition to the cake, you can use natural dyes. Beige color will come from carrot juice, pink or red from beetroot or cherry juice. A chocolate color can be obtained by adding melted chocolate to the mastic.

Recipe for a cake with Walt Disney characters made from fondant

The cake layers and cream for the Mickey Mouse cake can be any kind, but it will be easier for a novice pastry chef to work with sponge cake layers. Plus, children really like biscuits, and they are prepared from a simple list of ingredients.

So, for sponge cakes you need:

  • 7 chicken eggs;
  • 200 g granulated sugar;
  • 130 g flour;
  • 30 g starch;
  • 10 g vanilla sugar.

The cake will need to be leveled under the mastic, so you need a thick cream. It can be butter with powdered sugar, butter with condensed milk or curd and butter. The latter option is more preferable because it is not as fatty as the others, and cottage cheese is good for children.

For the cream you will need:

  • 500 g fat cottage cheese;
  • 250 g quality butter;
  • 200 g of powdered sugar (the amount can be increased or decreased depending on how sour the cottage cheese is).

You can also add seasonal fruits to the creamy filling between the layers.

Preparations for a birthday should begin in advance; two days before the celebration, you need to bake cakes in the evening, prepare cream, mastic and individual decorative elements, and the next day you should start assembling and decorating. In total, all processes may take from 36 to 48 hours.

The calorie content of the sponge cake is 281.5 kcal/100 g.

Progress:

  1. Using a mixer at high speed, beat the whites of seven eggs to soft peaks, and in another bowl beat the yolks with sugar (including vanilla) also at high speed;
  2. Reduce the beating speed and carefully add the sifted flour and starch to the beaten yolks;
  3. When the mass becomes homogeneous, turn off the mixer, take a silicone spatula and carefully stirring from bottom to top, fold the whites into the dough;
  4. Cover the bottom of the springform pan with parchment, do not grease the sides with anything, lay out the dough and bake for 40 minutes at 180 degrees;
  5. Allow the finished sponge cake to cool in the oven with the door slightly open, then carefully run a knife along the sides of the pan to separate the sponge cake. Take out the cake, wrap it in cling film and put it in the refrigerator overnight so that later the cake does not crumble when cutting;
  6. For the cream, beat the cottage cheese in a blender and soft butter with powdered sugar in a mixer:
  7. Then add cottage cheese to the butter in portions, continuing to beat with a mixer. The finished cream should also spend the night on the bottom shelf in the refrigerator to stabilize;
  8. The next day, line the springform ring with cling film and place it on a tray or tray. Cut the biscuit into 2-3 layers. Place the cakes in a ring, layering them with cream and fruit. The last cake layer can be pressed down with a press and the cake can be placed in the refrigerator for 3-4 hours;
  9. Then remove the ring from the cake, cover it with cream on top and sides, leveling everything with a pastry spatula or a wide knife dipped in cold water. Then again in the cold for an hour, and after that you can start decorating;

Mickey Mouse style decor from mastic can be made in several ways:

  1. Bake a regular round cake, cover it with fondant or line it with cream and decorate it with Mickey Mouse and/or Minnie Mouse figures;
  2. Bake a cake in the shape of a cartoon mouse's head;
  3. Decorate the cake with a picture of Mickey Mouse made from fondant.

To make a decoration according to the first option, you need to prepare a mouse figurine and other decorative details from mastic in advance so that they have time to dry a little and do not become deformed when placed on the cake.

Those who are not confident in their sculpting abilities can first practice and try to mold Mickey Mouse together with a child from plasticine. If you are satisfied with the result, then you need to stock up on light, dark and red mastic and start sculpting from it.

For the second option - in the form of a Mickey Mouse head, you need to bake a base from one large circle and two smaller ones. To do this you will need two portions of dough. This will be the mouse's head and ears. Then connect all the parts together, slightly trimming the ears at the junction with the head so that they fit snugly. Then cover the cakes with mastic and decorate with additional decorative elements.

For example, multi-colored circles, stars, hearts and more.

For a mastic picture, you need to find and print a picture of Mickey or Minnie Mouse. Then the drawing is cut into separate fragments, which are made in the same color. Then, using these templates, parts of the picture are cut out from thinly rolled out mastic of the appropriate color and connected on the cake into a colored mastic picture.

When working with mastic, you need to remember that starch is used to dust the table and mastic so that it does not stick to the rolling pin and hands.

The remaining starch is subsequently removed with a soft brush, and the mastic on the finished cake is smeared with vodka. This will give it shine. There is no need to worry about the alcohol; it will have time to evaporate before serving.

How to make a Mickey Mouse cake from cream with your own hands

For creamy decor, you can also bake a cake according to your favorite recipe, or you can try something new, for example, “Milk Girl” cakes. They will need:

  • 380 g condensed milk;
  • 2 chicken eggs;
  • 20 g baking powder (can be replaced with slaked soda);
  • 160 g flour.

The cream for leveling and spreading the cakes is the simplest of whipped cream, for which you need:

  • 500 ml heavy cream (at least 33%);
  • 150 g powdered sugar.

You can also put fruit in the layer of this cake.

Baking the cake layers, whipping the cake and assembling it will take no more than 1 hour, but the decorating process can take twice as long, depending on the chosen complexity.

The calorie content of 100 g of this cake will be equal to 310.8 kilocalories.

Sequencing:

  1. Using a mixer or hand whisk, combine all crust ingredients. The dough should be like thick sour cream;
  2. On a sheet of parchment, draw a circle with a diameter of 16 to 20 cm. Place two tablespoons of dough in its center and spread it to the edges to make a circle;
  3. Thus, bake 10-12 cakes in the oven at a temperature of 180-200 degrees;
  4. For the cream, wash and degrease the bowl and mixer whisk with lemon juice (or citric acid solution). The cream should also be ice cold;
  5. Beat the cold cream at high speed, adding the powdered sugar little by little. In 10-15 minutes the cream will be ready.
  6. Spread the cakes with cream, add fruit to the layer. Align the sides and top, and after that you can start decorating.

A Mickey Mouse style cream cake can also be made in the shape of a mouse's head or have a cream picture on top.

A head-shaped cake is prepared in the same way as its mastic version, only then it is not covered with mastic, but decorated with cream. To do this, you need to draw a mouse’s face on a blank in dark, beige and red (Mickey Mouse’s tongue or a bow on Minnie’s head).

And to make a cream picture, you first need to print a suitable image on paper, paste it into a file, which should be disinfected with vodka.

Melt chocolate or confectionery glaze in a water bath or in the microwave, transfer it to a parchment cornet, and use liquid chocolate to draw the outlines of the design on the file.

Place the prepared drawing in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes, and then transfer it, chocolate side down, onto a cake lined with cream. Carefully remove the file so that the outline of the design remains on the cake. After this, pour cream of different colors from a pastry bag and color the picture.

How to decorate a cake in the shape of a cartoon character

When decorating a cake for a children's party, you should not forget that girls prefer Mickey Mouse's friend, Minnie the mouse. And it is more appropriate to use girlish colors for decoration: pink, beige, light shades of green, yellow and others.

To decorate a boy's birthday cake, you should give preference to richer shades of yellow, green, red and blue. The boys will be more happy with Mickey Mouse than with his girlfriend.

If the cake is being prepared for the birthday of a boy and a girl (for example, twins), then you can conditionally divide it into two halves, decorating each in a boyish and girlish style, or you can make the cake in one neutral style, but with Mickey and Minnie figures.

But when choosing how to decorate the cake, you should not forget to consult with your child and find out what the birthday boy himself wants. Only under this condition will it be possible to arrange an unforgettable holiday for your child.
